Mulan is one of the most expected periodic from the Disney’s in 2020, starring Liu Yifei as Hua Mulan, Gong Li as the Witch and Donnie Yen as Commander Tung. The movie is directed by Niki Caro of Zoo Keeper’s Wife fame.
Does Mulan live up to the expectations ?
Hua Mulan is the elder daughter of the Hua family and is always a troublemaker which brings dishonor to her father and the family for not able to rise a good daughter. She is trained by her father from childhood to master her Chi.
When the Rourkans — the Northern invaders with the help of a witch invades the Kingdom by capturing crucial garrisons along the silk road. The Emperor orders to assemble an Imperial army to which each family should provide a man to fight.
With her father unable to wield a sword due to his illness of war wounds, Hua Mulan disguises herself as a man named Hua Jun waering her father’s armor and carrying his sword trains joins the imperial army to stop the Invaders.
Mulan is undoubtedly one of the best visual experience but desperately fails to live up to the expectations. Nothing seems to quite complete with the film.
Starting from average acting to slow paced screenplay. Everything seems to fall apart. Some dialogues were great but it wasn’t enough to save the film from beyond boring.
With a stellar cast the movie still disappoints in terms of performance. The movie falls short in detailing as it also falls short on creating a battle sequence. The only good thing about the film was it’s visual, it will be treat for some but mostly a torture for others.
On the top side Mulan delivers not so cliched Disney’s princess characters, Mulan is a princess who waits for the knight to come and save her she saves them.
